In the new trailer for A Different Man, Sebastian Stan takes on the role of Edward, a man with facial deformities who undergoes a radical medical procedure to change his appearance. When another actor who resembles his former self (played by Adam Pearson) is cast as him in a play, Edward becomes obsessed with reclaiming his lost identity. Directed by Aaron Schimberg, the film also features Renate Reinsve as Edward’s neighbor and playwright, Ingrid. A Different Man premiered at Sundance and received acclaim at the Berlin International Film Festival, where Stan won the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance. During a panel discussion, Stan, Pearson, Reinsve, and Schimberg discussed the themes of privacy and invasion of personal space explored in the film. Stan revealed that he spent hours in the makeup chair with prosthetic artist Mike Marino to achieve his character’s look, and noted that children were the most honest in their interactions with him while in character. A Different Man promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of identity and acceptance, set to hit theaters on Sept. 20.
