The SuperLambanana statue in Liverpool has become a symbol of the city’s history and culture. Initially created in 1998 as part of an art corridor project, this unique sculpture combines two of Liverpool’s common trading cargos in a bright yellow design. Designed by Japanese artist Taro Chiezo, the SuperLambanana was originally intended to move around the city but eventually found a permanent home on Tithebarn Street. After more than 20 years, the statue required a replica due to wear and tear, but a special licence with Liverpool John Moores University has allowed the original sculpture to remain in place. This agreement highlights the significance of the SuperLambanana in Liverpool’s heritage and its connection to the city’s past.
